Archive of Dissent’ exhibition by Peter Kennard at the Whitechapel gallery showcase’s the artist’s body of work since about 1970 to present day, in which Kennard reacts to world events through the power of photomontages—juxtaposing imagery, incorporating art with politics. 

Images, posters, magazine publications and covers which have featured Kennard’s work, references wars, protesting nuclear arms, challenging the status quo, environmental disasters; the artist’s work advocates for peace and reflects his concern on a world increasingly placing profit over people, as he states in the exhibition’s texts: “ Profit masks poverty, racism, war, climate catastrophe and on and on…My aim is to unmask the connection.” — #PeterKennard

Set in a space which used to be the Whitechapel Library (1892-2005) known as the People’s University of the East End, in name which Kennard also uses for a new work on display, in an exhibition with an aim to share and offer viewpoints with viewers and visitors as a space for learning as a library might do.

Peter Kennard's work is held in several punlic collections including Arts Council England, Tate ad solo exhibitions at Imperial War Museums, UN, with group shows at the V&A,Turner Contemporary Margate, Tate Modern amongst many other places. 

Archive of Dissent is on at The Whitechapel Gallery until January 2025.

Peter Kennard's work is important for the world, it shines a light on pressing issues and seeks social justice.
