Mostafa Choobtarash

With a colourful and playful visual, Mostafa Choobtarash’s artistic marks both hide and draw attention to traumas and issues that stem from war.
Born in Dezful, a historic city in the southwest of Iran, impacted by the Iran-Iraq war, Choobtarash’s work echo’s back to traumatic experiences, the effects war has on everyday issues and the aftermath of war.
Mostafa Choobtarash looks to highlight reactions, observations and sentiments, such as “an interesting conversation I had with a taxi driver, seeing someone angry on the street slamming a door and wondering what made them angry, the flood of news on the TV…”
History and his experiences of war mould themselves into the artist’s current impressions, fuelling his art and marks.
Colour blocks fill out the artworks by Mostafa Choobtarash, layered over lines that have impacted the artist, sheltering feelings, conflicts, masking through in joy and colour, bursting with expression, chaos, determination, clusters of art, hope and reflection. Moving, transporting artworks that push through wounds and silence.

Mostafa Choobtarash recently exhibited with Katharina Maria Raab at MENART Fair in Paris at the Palais d'IENA.
